Maria Pavledia was born in East London in 1966 and attended East Ham Tech, then to do a degree in painting at Norwich School of Art.  She stopped making art for a while  and worked on a variety of youth and community projects, becoming a Hospital Play Specialist and later, a community literacy worker and part time community librarian in Norfolk. Below is the impressive owl drawing Maria has completed for the Norfolk by Design exhibition currently installed in the Stables at Houghton Hall

Starting from a very strong commitment to drawing, she develops images using a mixture of traditional and non traditional methods, including etching which she uses to explore  new ways of mark making and expression. Maria started printmaking in the `90's, and after moving to Norfolk, set up the Burgh Print Studio in Burgh next Aylsham with fellow artist/printmaker Sarah Wilson with an Arts Council Grant. She finished her MA in printmaking at Camberwell College of Art in September 2012.
